Day 1 - Sewing Bag Project
Ok, I started my sewing bag and I have had a few mistakes along the way already 😒
Mistake 2
Note: This project is not my design, it belongs someone called Handywoman, you can find this pattern by following the link to her home page where there are lots of fabulous patterns.
Mistake 1
I cut out the first few pieces of fabric and did them all wrong so KJ took over.
I have trouble cutting out fabric, I use scissors which don't always give me straight edge, when I use my large quilting ruler and my cutter the ruler tends to move as I get near the end of the cut so I struggle a bit with cutting.
It took ages ironing all the interfacing on, there are so many bits to this bag.
Mistake 2
Once my pieces were all ironed I then got my wadding and the front and lining of the back of the bag and off to my lovely machine I went.
Oh I forgot to tell you, I drew all the lines on the front and lining pieces ready for quilting, I used a red drawing pen that disappears when it's ironed, how clever is that 😉
I attached my walking foot and started to sew, I obviously didn't attach it properly because as I started to sew my machine had a complete flip out and broke my needle in half, I could not clear the jam so KJ had to fix it.
I am going to keep a total of how many needles I break during this project, you can see it over on the top right.
Mistake 3
Once I got sewing, bearing in mind this is my first proper quilting project, I was doing really well, but by the time I got to the last sewing line, my stitches didn't follow the lines that I had drawn, you can see here how far out my stitching is 😟
I looks good though, I'm really pleased with it, the only thing wrong is that the material has shrunk so now I have to trim the edges, but that's ok I think, further down the line I will probably have to adjust all the sizes of everything because of this shrinkage, I think it might be because the batting was too thick, I'm not sure, it you know please tell me, I need all the help I can get lol.
I chose a cream fabric for the outside of the bag and pastel colours for the lining. I think my batting is too thick, once these two pieces are sewn together it is really thick, maybe I have another mistake here, should have used thinner batting 😕
Happy Days!
